Who, exactly, is Don (D.A.) and Shelley Wilburn?
We are high school sweethearts. D.A. tells people we started dating in Kindergarten. That’s not entirely true. We did meet in grade school; he was in fifth grade and I was in fourth grade. We started dating in high school. The rest in history.
We got married in June of 1983, and have been married for more than 42 years. We have three grown children and eight grandchildren. We live on about 41 acres where we raise chickens, dogs, and grandchildren. We have two little chihuahuas (Georgie and Tootsie), and a Great Pyrenees (Grizzy).
D.A. has been a carpenter for more than 50 years, but also worked in law enforcement for eleven years and taught the D.A.R.E. program for nine of those as well. In 2001, he left law enforcement to go into the ministry. Together, we have been in ministry for more than 20 years. He is still in carpentry, co-owning a thriving contracting business with our son.
I have been a writer for nearly fifty years, going full-time in 2012 after a miraculous healing from severe depression, anxiety, and emotional trauma. God has been amazingly good to me in allowing me to see my dream of becoming a published author. I have published 6 books, and collaborated, edited, and formatted even more. I’m not only an author, but an editor, book/writing coach, and ghostwriter. I love to teach about writing and help others see their dream of publishing a book. I also love to write encouragement and inspiration for those who may be struggling with the things I once did.
D.A. and I love doing things outside the box, so-to-speak. We love to travel, spend time together, and have fun. We have planted two churches, done street evangelism, and one of our most fun ministries was building a motorcycle trailer out of a full-size casket. Since we loved riding motorcycles, we would travel around, pulling that casket with us wherever we went. But the stories we could tell from those motorcycle adventures! We will, someday. Today, we are beginning a new adventure with a new camper.
For more than forty years we have talked about traveling and seeing the country. Now that our kids are grown and have lives of their own, we started dreaming again about traveling more. Although we no longer ride motorcycles, which is okay, we decided to get a Jeep and a build camper. So here we are! Come along with us… virtually, or in person.
